The King's Confirmation

Kenny Dalglish

The news that every Liverpool supporter had been waiting for finally arrived - Kenny Dalglish signed a three year contract to manage Liverpool Football Club as a continuation of his duties as caretaker manager after the dismissal of Roy Hodgson. To be honest, it just had to happen! There would probably have been a lynching of the new owners if they had chosen somebody else for the job after the recent performances of the team under Dalglish.

Dalglish, as we all know, has legendary status at Liverpool but not even his greatest fan would have anticipated the impact and improvement that his appointment brought to the team in an awfully short space of time. It was a tremendous decision at the time by the new owners to bring him back As the club kept floundering under the leadership of Hodgson, they gave their manager time to steady the ship but things did not improve and he had to be replaced. Kenny was the only man that could be brought in to appease the fans at that point of time and being the loyal servant of Liverpool FC that Dalglish is, he immediately accepted the responsibility and has exceeded all expectations with his performance.

Dalglish has lifted the morale of the whole club, the millions of supporters and most importantly the players since his arrival. Many supporters thought that the squad lacked quality players and needed a major overhaul in the summer but after a few months under Dalglish, the squad does not look so rickety after all. The style of play that Dalglish has instilled into the team with the famous pass and move style has been like a breath of fresh air and even the players seem much more confident when they play that way. The work rate Dalglish demands of his players to press high up the park is respected by the Anfield faithful as the Liverpool supporters just want to see their team give 100% irrespective of the results. Kenny has started integrating youngsters into the first team which was not being done over the past few years. There are so many positives in Dalglish's short time back in charge that for the first time in quite some time, Liverpool fans believe that they could actually challenge for silverware once again.

The new owners have also worked in a commendable fashion. They were always going to give Kenny Dalglish the job on a permanent basis but were not going to be rushed into any announcement or decision until they were actually ready. Even with the constant demands from the supporters and the media to give Dalglish the job, they waited till the time was right for the official announcement. Liverpool could not have had a better man to lead them back to the glory days and knock Manchester United off their impending perch. The club can certainly look forward to the next season with a renewed optimism and vigour.
